Advanced ceramics have excellent properties of high durability and non-reaction, which enable them to be effectively applied in the medical technology. For example, zirconia ceramics have several advantages such as corrosion resistance, super chemical stability, non-toxicity, high compressive strength, hardness, low thermal conductivity, low friction, and do not produce current. Compared with metal materials, ceramics can achieve the best aesthetic degree with and human tissue. Ceramic materials has been used in artificial hip joint replacement since the 1970s. So far, the superior abrasion resistance of ceramic materials can extend the life of artificial joints, and the expected lifetime can reach more than 20 years. Ceramic components are widely used in medical devices. Compared with other materials, industrial ceramics (advanced ceramics or engineering ceramics) have more continuous wear-resistance, higher toughness, higher pressure-resistance, excellent chemical resistance and higher electrical resistance, especially suitable for medical equipment in high working temperature.
